Places To Go To In Cambridgeshire - Focus On Getting Around Peterborough

England's serene and charming countryside is the best place for strolling and communing with nature. A country popularized by the writings of Eliot's and Shakespeare's poems as an ideal place for romance and stories of knight's and love. One special place that you would really love to see is in Peterborough UK. It's an ancient city of England with history dating back as far as medieval times and Roman occupation. During the Anglo-Saxon era, a Benedictine monastery was built in the area which would later become the St. Peter Cathedral and the village that grows around the place was known as Medeshamstede which now Peterborough.

Today, Peterborough is a bustling industrial city, a farm centre and an important railroad junction. However even as a city, it still maintains its charm as countryside with its vast tracks of agricultural lands, noteworthy archaeological sites and ruins. Quality bricks producer is also a famous trait of the city.

Getting to this place is very easy. Peterborough is just 75 miles North of London. It has its own array of transportations which could take you in and out of the city at your own unhurried or excited pace. Taxis in Peterborough abounds which could take you to all the beautiful places it has to offer; or you could choose to exercise and relax and walk the 50 mile Peterborough Millennium Wheel, a continuous routes of cycle-ways, footpaths and bridleways that circuits around the city; or a boat ride for the hopelessly romantics.

So if you are in the area, take an hour or two and visit St. Peter's Cathedral, one of its tourist attractions. King Henry VIII's first wife Queen Katherine and Mary, Queen of Scots are said to have been buried here and as such is one of the oldest buildings standing in the city today. The Cathedral is a nice example of architecture in the Middle Ages and would certainly affect your artistic side. Honesty and good sense of direction are important traits of Peterborough taxis and as such getting to this place is easy. Exploring the city's museum after you've had enough of all your countryside excursions would be the next thing to do next and learn the background and history of the place. The Peterborough museum covers a wide variety of collections; some are of national and international importance.

For those with plans of studying, this place would still suite you best; for the area is located near Cambridge, one of the best and famous universities in the world. Living in this place would be quite an experience. It does not lack of entertainment of any kind; as it amuse you and strengthened your body with your leisurely strolls, fascinate your mind with its mines of archaeological and historical sites and quiets your soul with the peaceful ambiance it holds.
