Perhaps you are getting a new office that belonged to someone else. Or maybe you are in a new building with new walls, floors and space! Whatever your situation, it's time to design your office just for you. You must now decide what you want to do to make this office fit your taste and needs. Furniture - One of the first things that you must consider when designing your office is the type of furniture you want. This will largely depend upon what type of atmostphere you want to create and what type of work you do. You must have a desk and chair to do your work each day. While these are standard pieces of equipment for offices, there are many different types of both. You need to find a desk at which you can sit comfortably. Your chair should be adjustable and have good back support so you can be comfortable all day long. You may also find it necessary to have a couch or loveseat, chairs and end tables. Color - What kind of feeling do you want to create in your office? Are you interested in a welcoming atmosphere that is warm and inviting? Or perhaps you want a more industrial feeling to keep yourself on task and remind others to do likewise. For a welcoming feel, you can go with a more neutral color such as beige or green. White walls is usually used for institutional facilities which are rather cold and uninviting. Lighting - Within the workplace, various types of lighting will produce different effects. Softer lights are easier on the eyes and don't give off as much of a glare. For office work, it's good to have a light close by so you can see and not have to strain your eyes while you work. Flooring - Many offices have carpeting which is definitely more comfortable. If you decide on carpeting, remember that it must be maintained so keep it as clean as possible. This is the reason that many offices choose hard flooring. Be sure and find flooring that matches your wall color and décor in general. Extras - There are so many extra things that you can add to your office to give it appeal and warmth. Pictures are a welcome addition to any room. An office looks attractive with large framed pictures of scenery or flowers. Having live plants in the office is a great way to make it more warm. Smaller plants can fit on end tables with large potted plants on the floor. Designing your office will likely bring out your creative side as you get a feel for what you both want and need. It's important to buy quality merchandise so that you won't have to worry about extra maintenance. While you must buy reasonably, you must also keep quality in mind so your office will fit your tastes and class.
