In the past 12 months house prices in Cambridge have increased by a whopping 26%. This means that Cambridge has the second strongest house price in the UK, with the first being St. Albans. Savills, head of Residential Property, James Barnett explains that this huge increase was fuelled by high earners from London choosing Cambridge for more affordable prices. A house in the city of Cambridge now costs an average of £296,502. Not only are the high earners looking for better value but they are also searching for a better quality of life. Cambridge holds an incredibly desirable reputation historically and currently there are more buyers than sellers so it is unlikely the property price increases there will stop for the foreseeable future. As well as people wishing to relocate to Cambridge it also has a very healthy buy-to-let market, the second most active outside London and now with Microsoft moving there it is going to continue to be a very strong place for property. Across the country of Cambridgeshire house prices have gone up by 14 per cent. Cambridge is an inspirational city and a pleasure to visit any time of the year. When considering relocating to Cambridge, you will no doubt be charmed by the numerous bars, restaurants and independent shops which centre around the historical market place. Located only 50 minutes from central London and a mere 20 minutes from London Stansted Airport, it is the perfect location for a business person to enjoy a superb quality of life within a very acceptable commuting distance. It has a wealth of architecture and heritage and it is one of the cities which can be said to have influenced the world we live in. It retains a poignant sense of history almost everywhere that you look. The University has thirty one colleges and atmospheric cobbled courts, gardens, chapels; yet on the other hand it is a place where modern architecture lies beside the traditional and is a draw to architectures admirers of many genres. The city's restaurants have a wide variety of offerings to the resident or visitor, from Michelin star restaurants to the more casual, economic yet enjoyable meal. The city has a lively night life with a wealth of choice for the night owl. The year in Cambridge is also packed with festivals and events, with naturally the Shakespeare Season being one of the more famous. While for families there are many different activities and events to be found. It is no wonder that property in Cambridge is so sought after.
