Being a dog owner can create its own set of problems right? However, it's not all negative, most dog owners would agree that the positives out weigh the negatives. With regard to stop a dog from barking you must take into consideration, it's a way of your dog trying to communicate with you. Let's face it, that's one of the few options they have. On the other hand, it depends in what situation the dog is barking. In order to find a solution a certain amount of research is required. Many dogs bark when they are happy, others bark to protect you and your home. After all, many people have dogs for that sole purpose. However, a dog that barks continuously are considered to be an unhappy dog, and what's more, this is not natural, and needs to be investigated in order to find the solution. Here are a few things you might like to try get started. Training your dog not to bark in unnecessary situations is essential. Without training how is your dog going to know when to bark or not? At the end of the day he is trying to tell you something and not getting through to you. Dogs are very territorial animals. Dogs intruding on their territory will cause continuous barking problems and this is common. However, all this can be overcome with the right training. A further thing to consider. Is your dog getting enough exercise? Dogs often bark for this reason. Is your dog getting enough attention? They are very similar to humans in this regard, they love to be made a fuss of. A colleague of mine was able to train his dog not to bark when the door bell rang. He achieved this by continually ringing the door bell. He was able to train the dog to ignore it. The point is you can train your dog to do almost anything within reason, with a little time, patience, and know how. However, there are few things not to do for example: nothing is achieved by yelling at the dog or, losing your temper, this can make matters worse. Try not to reward them in the attempts to stop your dog from barking. When communicating with your dog its okay to speak with a firm voice but not to shout. Today whilst out walking I was watching a lady training a horse with a whip. Horses are very sensitive, if they turn on you its wise to get out of the way. Shouting does not work with horses so why would it work with dogs? The lady in question whilst training the horse was continually praising the horse but, she did not raise her voice the whole time I was watching. It was a joy to watch the results that the lady achieved with this mental attitude and technique. If you adopt similar techniques whilst training your dog you will be amazed at the results.
