Cloud hosting and computing will branch off in different directions in the next five years. One branch of the individual type is going to be operated within a company. These are called private clouds. They function internally, in the company's own private data banks. There are going to be financial reasons why the private type are impractical and probably unaffordable. One expert predicts that, even though more stringent security measures are going to protect data banks maintain the isolation of the private ones, they will be part of a major public provider eventually. He thinks the large public providers and those that are private will separate and exist under the umbrella of a large public provider. The designation of private will be in name only. All are going to be under the umbrella of the larger, public cloud hosts. Each private one will operate independently although there will be some connection to the public ones. Each segment will be a part of the whole. The Infrastructure of the large public providers are going to need governmental guidance. As a data bank grows it will need more and more security measures. Encryption of data is only a small portion of that. The system will consist of only a few large public groups and numerous small private groups will depend on them. Security is sure to be monitored constantly and changed when needed. This kind of computing, is now considered freedom from the restraints of paying for server time you may not use. Companies are freed from paying for a month of dedicated server time, and possibly not using it all. Alternatively, companies have encountered times when they needed more space and found it unavailable. This kind of computing is a pay per segment of time. This is a fair way of using server time. No cost is imposed unless server time is actually used. There is always a need for server time. Corporations need to communicate with other corporations. Possibly servers can be established around the globe. Federations will have small companies grouped under them. When there is extensive growth it will require rules for small companies and the federations also. IT developers will recognize the need for standards. They are going to develop them in response to that need. An established ecosystem is planned as part of the establishment. This kind of computing continues to be beneficial to all public and private clouds. Expert opinion speculates that this type of computing is going to be consolidated in the next five years. Horizontal and vertical consolidation are both expected to take place. Large providers will acquire the smaller hosting providers. New consolidations will have similarities to the structure and change we see happening in the corporate world of today. As cloud hosting grows, change is inevitable. Some good changes will take place and some bad changes as well. Cloud hosting services are in three designated classifications. The first is Software as a Service. Second is Platform as a Service. Third is Infrastructure as a Service. Experts predict rules to be installed. There will be specialized clouds, and platforms will support various applications. Cloud hosting will retain the basic concept and provide services on a pay per use basis. Security measures will be tightened. Public clouds will prevail over private ones. Customer demand will also facilitate change that is not even predicted yet.
