Talking to a friend or a colleague and worrying if you have bad breath is one of the worst things that could happen to you.

Choice of Food and its Effect

unpleasant breath is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth, mostly on the back of the tongue. Commonly, the reason why a person has bad breath is because they tend to forget cleaning their mouth. One of the reasons as well is the kind of food they eat. Food particles are trapped in and around your mouth that can result in unpleasant breath. Onions and garlic are food that has strong odors and contain oils that if not cleaned, residues will be an instant attraction to bacteria that can cause bad breath. These types of food are being absorbed through your bloodstream after it is being digested, and they are finally carried to your lungs where they are noticed through our breath until the food has passed through our system. Aside from onions and garlic, there are external sources that can cause unpleasant breath. These are coffee, cigarette smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking coffee, tea and/or red wine will contribute to your teeth becoming stained.

Cause of Poor Dental Hygiene

Bad breath problems may also be a cause of poor dental hygiene. Letting food particles stay in your mouth wherein it collects bacteria and releases sulfur compounds make your breath smell. Brushing and flossing habitually is necessary not only for preventing unpleasant breath but for general hygiene of your mouth. Brushing your teeth can also rinse the sugar content that the food has that causes plaque wherein it is also responsible for gum disease and contributes to bad breath.

Dry Mouth Can Be A Cause Of Bad Breath

Having dry mouth is also one of the causes why people have halitosis. A good example is “morning breath”. During night time when people are at sleep, saliva flows are lesser than day time causing bad breath to most people. It will allow dead cells to gather on your mouth, cheeks, gums and tongue when it is dry and it will decompose causing an odor. Additionally, people who breathe through their mouth or are under stress can find that they have somewhat dry mouths and therefore persistent problems with breath odors.

Effect of a Heavy Smoker

Sinus conditions can have an effect on the quality of a person's breath. Upper respiratory infections and allergies can create postnasal drip that deposits onto the back portion of a person's tongue (by way of the oral-nasal pathway found in the area of a person's soft palate). This discharge often has a foul taste and smell. Infections are really difficult to avoid however it is what the person is doing to their body that is the main cause of them having halitosis. An example would be smoking. Bad breath and smoking are two inseparable things. If one smokes, it follows that he or she has a bad breath, maybe not chronic but has a breath that smells like an ashtray. Smoking dries the mouth by inhibiting saliva flow. This, in turn, leads to the growth of bacteria, causing bad breath. Also a condition called Ketoacidosis, wherein it is caused by severe dieting, can result to having bad breath. Ketoacidosis can be smelled on a person's breath. This is due to acetone, a direct by-product of the spontaneous decomposition of acetoacetic acid.

Fight the Cause of Bad Breath

Despite of all the ads concerning of oral hygiene, there are still people who doesn’t care about having bad breath. They are not disturbed of having such kind of hygiene. Mostly, it is the people around them who suffer from this unfriendly odor. Once the person behind already knows the reason of having this problem, that person can think and start changing their habits to have a better life. A simple act of carrying a toothbrush and toothpaste as your weapon, then you can start fighting bad breath. If problems still exist and becomes sever like dental problems, you may need now to consult a doctor and have it checked for it to be resolved.
