If you are thinking about building a website for your business then you may be wondering what is a lower level domain registration name and are they worth it. Domain names are like address labels that define a virtual place on the Internet. They follow the rules of DNS, or the designated name system. They are organized in a hierarchy of sub levels or sub layers from the DNS root domain. The way that is most widely used for a designation name is similar to address labels. Each area in the virtual world has to have a name and a position. TLD, known as top level domains, is also more commonly used as . Com, . Org, or . Net. Belonging to this top level also is the country codes that we live in, not unlike the snail mail system. Examples of country codes are . US, . CA, . AU. Just beneath the top level hierarchy lies the second and third levels which is where business labels public and private websites reside. There are also many open labels still available for purchase from a web hosting service at this level with endless opportunities. There is a second layer that is known as the SLD, or second layer designation that is visible to the immediate left of the regular . Com or . Org. In a regular web address the third layer designation name is just to the left of the second layer. A normal website demonstrating second and 3rd layer designation hierarchy could be something similar to www.sas.tx.us. The WWW is the host name of the world wide web server. Each layer or label in the address is separated by a dot. The levels could go on indefinitely as needed. Many layer have already been used, but there is still endless possibilities of labels that exist and have not been thought of yet. The lower second and third layer designations follow closely with the business name or product, and service. Further down the line of layers comes the host server name. WWW and FTP are common host server designations. Host server labels typically service many sites to its few servers. Resale of website designations is a business that can be very good. If you are thinking of a good idea for the name of a website then get it registered. Perhaps one day you will be selling it to some big company in need of it! Many labels are already in use do to the growing popularity of the Internet. With no end in site, these labels are getting used up left and right. Alternative labels are already also being used. Whether you want to extend your already existing business to the Internet, or start an Internet business, you will need to think of catchy domain names that people can remember easily. Locking in a lower level designated name of your choosing helps create profits for the future. Registering a great idea for a name that hasn't already been taken just might make you a fortune one day. These are all reasons that explain what is a lower level domain and are they worth it.
