There are many ways to promote eco-sustainability, whether it be from building houses that are fabric structures rather than bricks and mortar to taking a shower rather than a bath. Below are several ways you can help promote eco-sustainability. If we are to help our environment to survive and prosper in the long term it is important to identify exactly what makes it up, and what we need to be able to thrive as well within that environment. Typically this is divided into atmosphere, freshwater and oceans, land use and management of human consumption. Atmosphere In order to protect the earth's atmosphere we need to be aware that we can send a lot of harmful gases into it. One of the most common ways we can do less of this is to travel on public transport, so that less carbon emissions are sent into the atmosphere. Flying less by aeroplane can also make a big difference. Freshwater and Oceans We need to ensure that we have enough freshwater for us to drink and also large enough oceans so that the life forms that are already in those oceans can be supported. In order to help with these issues we need to do our best to protect our oceans by not pumping waste into them. Land Use One of the major saviours of environmental damage is the planning of trees as they can help the atmosphere by soaking up carbon dioxide and turning it into oxygen. However they also play a crucial role when it comes to making sure that we don't get more deserts. Thousands of years ago there was very little desert in north Africa, for example, however, we decided to chop down the trees that were there and over time the land became desert. Buildings In some countries it is warm enough not to need to use concrete and other such materials to build housing and as such we can save a lot of energy or resources by using fabric architecture. It's not always appropriate, but it can have an influence on sustainable living. Human Consumption The developed world consumes far more than the developing world, however, as the developing world develops it will place a much greater strain on the world's natural resources. There is a very great risk that we will run out of water, for example, and there have already been several famines due to food shortages. We've also gone to war over oil and consequently if we were able to manage our consumption - and production - of natural resources better we would be in a much happier state. As you can see there are many things to consider when we focus on the subject of eco-sustainability. There are everyday things we can do to help on a local level - such as recycling, and we need to lobby governments to promote better use of natural resources.
