China is one of the most popular countries to go to for business travel in these times. Before you make your business trip, you will need to ensure that you have all of the proper documents. You do not just need to worry about your passport in this country - you will need to have a business visa.

The process to get your business visa for China will take up about 1 week. You can get an accelerated decision on your application if you pay additional fees. Keep in mind that if you are stopping for business in Hong Kong, you do not require a visa.

When you go to China on business, it usually will be necessary for you to get an F-type visa. These are given to people who are going to China for reasons of a business nature. This may include such things as trade shows, lectures, an internship, or for overall business purposes.

First you need to figure out if you need a single entry visa, multiple entry visa or double entry visa. A multiple entry can be used for 2 years, but you will need to provide more documentation to prove what you are doing there to require multiple visits.

Next, you have to have a US passport that is valid for at least 6 more months, and a visa page that is blank. Then you should download the China visa application from the website for the Chinese Embassy. After you do this, you need to complete it. You will have to have a passport photo that is 2x2, and you should send in a copy of your accommodations and airline flight info. Also required is a letter of invitation from a business in China, or a letter from your US company with business in China.

In your application, you should have an envelope that is prepaid and addressed to you. This is so the consulate can send everything back to you. It is important to remember that if you also are going to go to Hong Kong, you should choose the option for double entry on your application. The fee is about $130 for US citizens to get a visa to China for business.

You will need to deliver your visa application by hand to your nearest Chinese Embassy. If you cannot do this, you can pay an authorized agent to do it for you. Once it is submitted, just wait. The time to process your application can vary quite a bit, so you want to have a lot of time before your trip when you submit it.

Once you get to China with your visa, it could happen that you need to extend the visa. If you need to do this, you will need to go to your nearest Public Security Bureau for info on how to extend your business visa. This will normally have to be done by yourself in person. It should be done at least seven days before your visa expires.
