Kitchen Cabinet Knobs and Installation

In these tough economic times, "do it yourself" is the way to go. Nobody wants to have to hire a contractor… followed by a team of very expensive but slow-moving construction workers… to work on their homes anymore. The advantages of "Do It Yourself" go way beyond the wallet.

Of course, it's much easier just to pay someone else to do it (hence the high expense). That's why this article is pleased to offer tips and advice on kitchen cabinet product purchases and installation. Believe us when we say it makes no difference whether you're installing brass door knobs or Amerock cabinet pulls…. every bit of advice helps!

The first bit of advice we can offer deals with when you're looking at what cabinet knobs to purchase. Just like buying a used car, NEVER buy the first knobs that catch your fancy. With literally thousands upon thousands of door knob hardware available, both in stores and online, it be silly to settle on one product before reviewing a proper array.

The truth is, most designers would advise you hold off on making the trip to a hardware store until you've taken a look at at least one of the dozens of diverse knob companies that display their products online. So get on your computer, hop on the ol' internet-machine, and do what Al Gore always intended for the World Wide Web to be used for… shopping.

Once you start assembling, make sure you get yourself an effective leveler. Uneven knobs will make even a gold-encrusted set of cabinets look hideous, so take all the necessary steps to ensure your knobs are centered, even, and straight.

When putting the knob into the cabinet, try getting it either perfectly centered or in the upper quarter. This will increase the leverage into the door frame. Whichever placement you choose, make sure not to put the knob straight into the cabinets corner (this will weaken and eventually destroy the joints of the cabinet… meaning you'll have to replace it and do the whole process all over again).

Also, make sure to pick up bumper pads. Not only will this acquisition cut down on the amount of racket your cabinet doors create as they crash against the frames, it will also increase protection for the wood of the cabinet. The more protection you can offer your cabinets, the longer they will last, and subsequently the less often you'll have to do this process all over again.
