Cairo is Egypt's largest city and also the capital of Africa. Far from boring, Cairo will give you a vacation that you will not only enjoy, but that will give you great memories to last for years on end. There are many interesting things to see in Cairo. There are many different historic buildings of the many rulers of the city including those from Britain, Turkey, Greece, Arab, Rome and France. These rulers spanned over 5,000 years of time. There are also fascinating artifacts such as the Sphinx that is in Gaza, just outside of Cairo. Cairo is also fascinating because of the rich Islamic culture that is there. As you make your plans to visit Cairo, it's important to go when the weather is good. The summer months tend to be excruciatingly hot. Visiting between the months of November and March is the best time. This is the cooler season and it will provide much better conditions for sightseeing and travel. Coptic Cairo is the oldest part of the city and is where Babylon was originally built by the Romans. This area of the town has been inhabited for over two thousand years. This is considered the focal point of the city for the Coptic Christian community so many of their churches are in this area. The Hanging Church is in this area, along with the Ben Ezra synagogue, which is Egypt's oldest synagogue. Luxor is the area where the Egyptians tombs were made famous. Unfortunately, most tombs are empty. The Egyptian museum holds these and other amazing artifacts. Other relics and the sarcophagi in the museum highlight Egyptian's days of glory and fame. Items from King Tut's tomb are there including his magnificent solid gold mask. Anyone who visits Cairo knows that one of the most enjoyable parts of the journey is to visit the bazaars. It is here that you will feel at one with the smells, sounds and people of the city. Here you will find both glory and confusion. Whatever you like, you will like find here, from shoes to carpets to veils. Be sure and leave your valuables at home and then get lost in a world that hasn't changed much in hundreds of years. You will therefore get to watch the souvenirs being made and also get to take one home. Most people who visit Cairo get around by walking. The city is laid out in such a way that walking is the easiest way to travel. You can take one of the hundreds of taxis, but if you do, be sure to settle on a price before getting in. Single men sit in the front, while single ladies sit in the back. More passengers may be picked up along the way. Try to keep smaller bills on hand to pay the drivers the correct change. Once the car takes off, hold on and be glad you aren't the one driving! There are unlimited ways to have fun when visiting Cairo. You will have the help of a guide if you go on a tour. If you go alone, you will find your way, usually with the help of a map. And don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to go back again!
