Actually, a good backup plan is always part of sensible computing practices whether talking about computer servers or desktop workstations. You must quickly identify the types of data stored in the server to implement a good backup plan. Essentially it is a given that there would be a variety of data that will be stored by your computer server in colo. You need to rate the stored data in the computer server based on its value to your business. Partial or complete backup is something you have to take into consideration. A full backup will allow you to maintain a reserved computer server that contains duplicate data that you can put online anytime. Unfortunately, this also involves more tasks for you like backing up data and transferring it to the backup computer server. The issue of where to store the backup server should also be taken into account. If you can convince your colocation provider to allow you to keep the backup server in their data center then it would be ideal. The importance of a good backup plan for co-locating your servers should not be treated as a question of should or should not but more as must be done. Considering that colocation will place your computer server in a remote environment, backing it up should be part of your routine.
