A Service Level Agreement or a managed server contract will ensure that you learn how to get the best from your managed hosting service. Hosting companies vary and so do the client companies that need the services. When searching for a hosting company, a business should look for one that offers the strengths and capabilities that match the needs of the client. Here are a few things to look for in a hosting company. As a client, it is important that you have a clear understanding of the needs your business must fulfill. However, if you are not an IT professional, it may be hard to know how to match your company needs with the abilities of the host company, simply because you don't know what is available on the market that would fit your requirements. Business owners can take advantage of the expertise available in full-service hosting companies to help define the needs. It is normal and natural for business to desire growth. If a business grows, the space on a Windows managed server and the facilities used to manage those services must also grow. The hosting organization should be able to offer the client a frustration-free transition to a level of service that is an appropriate fit. A new business probably doesn't need an overabundance of space on the equipment. As a company grows in its needs, the host organization should be able to smoothly integrate increased service levels. Each aspect of the agreement between a client and the hosting organization should be formalized in writing. This action protects both parties. Some of the elements to be included are the level of operations, acceptable downtime and under what circumstances, the type of equipment and the administrative responsibilities. Typically the host installs and administers the operating system and printer software. The host also installs any applications that clients use, but does not administer this software. Application software operation is up to clients and their software providers. Replacement of outdated or obsolete equipment is usually specified within the agreement. The routine maintenance and upgrading of the system will be specified, typically at times when it is least disruptive to normal operating procedures. The client needs to receive industry standards will be met in equipment up time. The ability to contact customer care and/or server administration personnel during reasonable hours is crucial to the client. Because marketing and server use is global, these days, the need to get administrative level issues resolved quickly is obvious. The client doesn't want to wait for lengthy server down times in order to initiate contact with repair services personnel. Plenty of server space is something that the hosting company must provide. This includes room for the client operating software, space to provide for system backup and to install and operate peripheral equipment such as printers. Some applications may also be part of the client's needs. Fast downloading from the client website to potential customers is a necessity for growing sales. Learning how to get the best from your managed hosting service is a matter of putting several common sense stipulations into the managed server contract. The Service Level Agreement is the working and final document of understanding between the host company and client. It covers such things as administration, equipment and storage space, service level and speed and repairs.
