4 Ways To Spruce Up Your Room

Everyone likes to make their room look like a reflection of their personality but sometimes that can be tricky. In this guide we offer advice on how to spruce up your room with tricks such as door canopies or bookshelves.

1. Bookshelves

Bookshelves can add a lot of charm to your bedroom when you are at college or university as they can reflect a well-read mind. Of course, you need to be able to read all the books, or at least have an understanding of what they're about and what happens in them otherwise you could be exposed as something of a poser. The shelves themselves can be quite cheap, but filling them with worthy-looking books can be rather more expensive. One of the better places to pick up classics can be second-hand book stores where you can often pick up a Hardy or a Dickens for just a few pennies. Reading them can sometimes prove slightly tougher.

2. Photographs

In this day and age almost everyone has a digital camera with a few megapixels on it that translates well into a larger print. Get outside and take some pictures of local wildlife or if you are stuck in the city then have a look at gardens or go to the pub and think a bit about composition before shooting a few glasses of whiskey, for example.

Obviously the better an eye you have for photographs the more capably you are of taking something rather special, but with editing suites such as Adobe Photoshop often installed on home computers you can hide a lack of imagination with some tinkering on your laptop.

Getting your photographs printed and framed correctly can be a little more expensive, however, if you have a look online you're bound to pick up a deal at some point and you'll be able to display your talent with camera or editing suite soon.

3. Clutter

Hang around local fares or markets and you're going to find something or other sooner or later that you can put on your desk or hang from your window. There are many different types of antiques out there with a lot of character and it's likely that you'll find one that reflects yours.

4. A Clever Use of Fabric

One of the trendiest things we can do is use a bit of fabric in our room. Either we can hang some material from the ceiling to create an awning or even make a second door with another large swathe of material too. Either way, fabric can play a large part in making your room your own.

As you can see, it's pretty easy to decorate your room in a manner that reflects the person you are, and not for too much money. All you need is a little imagination and know-how and before you know it your room will be an extension of yourself.
