The Secret to a Spectacular Life - As if!

By : Valery Satterwhite

One of the phrases that helped define the 1990s is "As if!" Immortalized by actor Alicia Silverstone's character, Cher Horowitz, in the movie "Clueless", the term connotes a derisive assertion that whatever is being talked about is impossible or very unlikely. It is another way of saying:

"As if that were remotely possible?" "Doesn't she wish!" "Yeah, right!" "Not!"

Listen to the gossip as you're enjoying your Cosmo at any happy hour and you might here someone say "That guy asked me out on a date. As if!" Hell would have to literally prove itself and freeze over before that girl would consider going out with the woefully misguided guy.

Living in Los Angeles, I here the echoes of "As IF!" at least a few times a week as I engage with this vibrant and diverse culture. When I define the term without the slang reframe "As if" literally means "equally possible". And those two little words sum up the secret to a spectacular life.

In any area that you struggle or are uncomfortably challenged, reach for a positive perspective that is "equally possible" - one that would help you rise above and 'possibly' make your heart sing.

Think of who you admired as a child. What were their attributes? These characteristics are yours to claim. You always love a mirror image of who you really are. Confidently claim your truth! Show up in your life "as if" you are the person who admired boldly expressing your authentic greatness.

In case you don't know anything about my work, that's what I call Moxie! To live your life at your highest potential you have to exuberantly give voice to who you really are and what you are here to create - with unrelenting drive and passion. When in doubt, act as if.

Perhaps Bob Dylan said it best, "When you feel in your gut who you are and dynamically pursue it - don't back down and don't give up - you're going to mystify a lot of folks."

You are here to mystify a lot of folks.

To those who try to stand in your way or discourage you just toss your hair like Cher Horowitz and respond with two little words.... As if!

Fully living life authentically on your own terms is a spectacular way to live. When you don't think you can muster up the moxie to dance to the beat of your own drum no matter what anyone else thinks act as if. You'll be surprised at how fast you find yourself tapping your toes once again to the beat that rocks your world.
