The important benefits of industrial extractor fans is reflected in the range and diversity of products available in the market place. There are axial, centrifugal and blower fans available. Some may be installed in roofs and others at floor level. Fire fighting equipment may include extractors and there are also portable ventilation fans. The need for good ventilation is behind the need for extraction canopies. Harmful substances and gasses need to be expelled from rooms and the extraction stimulates the flow of fresh air into a building. Air quality has emerged as one of the most important issues in environmental health. Regulations concerning health and safety issues have been sweeping the world in recent times. Response to legislation can be seen from two angles. Some mining companies have been put out of business due to litigation relating to the ill-health of workers caused by poor air quality and lung infections. The health angle does not only apply in mines and similar tunnels. Even above ground there are fire hazards and health issues connected with the growth of mold which can start growing in buildings if the humidity is not controlled. Even a small electronics or upholstery business can harbor unhealthy air and mold that grows when relative humidity is out of kilter. Legal consequences aside, there is also a moral angle to be considered. Ventilation is not something that is easily noticed and diners in a restaurant, for example, can be at risk without being aware of it. From this perspective there is a moral onus on any entrepreneur to ensure that he takes adequate measures to protect workers and clients even though he may never be prosecuted for negligence within the law. Responsible steps to ensure healthy air quality enhances the reputations of employers and managers, being evidence of prudence and moral responsibility. There are also financial benefits deriving from right actions. Not only will costly legal and health costs be be avoided, but productivity may improve. Poor air quality can result in absenteeism. Less obvious may be slowness, discomfort and malaise which workers may experience without appreciating the cause. Good air quality may not be immediately apparent to people especially when they live in cities and are frequently exposed to polluted air anyway. Even when they are at the seaside or on a mountain slope where air is fresh they may not be aware of why they feel exhilarated and happy. They may attribute their a feeling of well being to other cause without realizing that it is actually fresh air that make them feel happy and energetic It is not only human beings who benefit from industrial extractor fans. Poultry, cows and pigs are also kept in buildings which may or may not be properly ventilated. Happy animals, just like happy people, are far more productive and healthy, though they too may not be able to put fingers on the exact reason for well being. Yet another very important benefit of proper ventilation is healthy food production in well ventilated buildings.
