Recent research has revealed that many Brits want to lose weight in order to achieve the perfect life.

A survey of 3,000 people by Sky Broadband discovered that 51 per cent of people felt miserable because of their weight and wanted to shed a few pounds so that they could attain their ideal existence.

The investigation into what factors people consider to be part of a dream life found that the average woman wanted to shed 10lb to attain her perfect weight of around 9st 7lb.

Men were also concerned that their size was keeping them from their dream life as the average male wanted to shed 8lb to achieve an ideal weight of just over 12st.

People wanting to lose weight in order to attain a desirable have been advised not to follow fad diets as some eating regimes can result in serious illness.

Scientists from the Purdue University in America found that post-menopausal women who go on weight-loss plans like the Atkins' diet could be at risk of diseases such as osteoporosis.

The researchers discovered that older women who attempt high-protein diets suffered from reduced bone mineral density in comparison to females on other low-calorie plans.

A safer way to lose weight is to take supplements such as t5 fat burners and t5 slimming pills.

Dr Igho Onakpoya said that a growing number of people are turning to weight loss products in Western Europe and America.

He said that sales of weight-loss products in Western Europe came to £900 million in 2009 and that Americans spend over $1.6 billion on weight-loss supplements every year.

People who take supplements such as t5 fat burners and t5 slimming pills have been advised that weight loss is only assured when combined with a balanced diet and plenty of exercise.

Victoria Taylor, senior heart health dietician at the British Heart Foundation, told the Daily Mail: "There are no quick fixes when it comes to weight loss.

"To reduce weight we need to be using up more energy than we are taking in and to achieve this we have to make changes to what we eat and how much activity we do."

Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding admitted that she stays in shape by taking slimming supplements.

She said: "I do take a lot of vitamins to keep myself in shape, Vitamin E, glucosamine, evening primrose oil, acidophilus for digestion and, of course, the kelp tablets."

Sarah Harding came 35th in FHM magazine's annual poll of the world's sexiest women in 2010.
