If you are looking to get involved in martial arts, you may feel overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of different martial arts styles that are out there. There are literally hundreds of different types and they all have a different way of training and learning. But there is one thing in common with all martial arts: they are all about defending yourself or others in the case of a violent situation. But if you are just looking to learn how to defend yourself, you don't need to become a martial arts expert. In fact, to get started, all you really need is a self defense DVD.

If you are sceptical at all, that is totally understandable. You might wonder how you could ever possibly learn self defense from a DVD. But when you really sit down and think about it, it makes perfect sense. Imagine having your very own personal trainer, coming right into your living room. Also, the trainer only shows up when you want them to and it can be in the middle of the afternoon or in the middle of the night. It's all up to you. That is why a self defense DVD is becoming the most popular way of learning martial arts styles.

And if you choose the right DVD, you won't have to worry about learning a million different types of self defense strategies. In fact, there is only one that you really need to know. It is referred to as close combat training and it is the single most effective way to defend yourself, in any type of violent situation. Say you are taking money out of the ATM late at night and someone comes at your with a knife. With close combat training, you will be able to learn how to stay cool, calm and collected, as you knock the knife out of the assailants hand and pin him to the ground. And you can keep him there as you call the police for them to take him away and think about what he did in a dark and gloomy jail cell . Or say you are a woman walking down a dark path at night. Suddenly a masked attacker comes out of nowhere and you fear you are about to be raped. With this type of training under your belt, you can easily reverse the situation and have them flat on their backs in seconds.

You can learn all of these amazing skills just from a self defense DVD that you can watch from the comfort of your own home. It would almost be senseless not to, because after all, it's your life, and the lives of those you love that are up for grabs here. We all need to be able to defend ourselves, because we simply do not know when violence will strike. But with close combat training under your belt, you will no longer have any reason to fear the dark, or even a bad part of town. You will be ready for anything.
