Carpeting Flooring, Hardwood, Vinyl Tile Flooring…Which Should You Choose?

Remodeling or renovating your home is an extremely exciting time. It’s truly a great feeling when you see all of your ideas and plans in their final, completed form. But unfortunately, getting to that final scene—where you’re sitting in the finished room breathing a sigh of relief and taking a victorious look around—takes a lot of hard work and decision making. Arguably, one of the hardest decisions to make is the flooring selection. Flooring is typically one of the last things that gets put in during the renovation process, as the other work (i.e. painting, cabinet work, baseboards, etc.) may require the flooring to come up or to be perfectly covered so it’s not damaged. Therefore, if you’re embarking on a home renovation process, you should start thinking about what type of flooring you’d like in your home. To help you in this decision making process, here are a few things to consider when making your selection:

Hardwood floors:

This flooring choice is known for its strength, sturdiness and timeless good-looks. As far as upkeep goes, wood floors are fairly easy. You just need to dust or vacuum them daily, and get them waxed every 6 -8 months. Unfortunately, they don’t hide scuffs and scratches well and can get discolored when they’re exposed to extreme wetness. Investing in Karastan area rugs can be a solution for someone who likes the look and feel of hardwood but are concerned about protecting it.

Ceramic tile:

Ceramic tile is a very common choice of homeowners because of its durability and decorative versatility. These types of floors also look great with Karastan area rugs, and are extremely easy to clean and maintain. The downside of ceramic tile, is its fragility, especially in kitchen settings. Dropping something like a can can chip or crack a ceramic tile.

Vinyl Tile Flooring:

Vinyl is the durable, affordable, and practical solution to wanting something that looks like the higher end stuff, but is strong enough to keep up with the reality of everyday life. In terms of aesthetics, there is a wide variety of vinyl tile flooring styles and colors that are sure to fit any budget or design guidelines. As far as maintenance goes, all you need to do is sweep and mop!

Wall-to-Wall Carpeting:

One huge advantage of wall to wall carpeting is its cost in comparison to other flooring types. Carpets come in a huge range of fibers, piles, colors, styles, etc. so you’re sure to find something that meets your needs. In addition, it provides a sense of warmth to room and it’s extremely comfortable to walk around on with bare feet. However, one potential drawback of wall to wall carpeting is the fact that you must be diligent in terms of cleaning. People with severe allergies may also want to steer clear of carpeting, as it can be a haven for dust mites and allergens, if not properly cleaned on a regular basis.
