When someone talks about quality glass work, the name Tiffany immediately comes to mind. Tiffany glassware has garnered great interest for over one hundred and twenty years. It was created by an American artist by the name of Louis Comfort Tiffany. His glassware was tastefully made using several different types of glass including favrile, opalescent, fracture, ripple, and drapery.

Tiffany creations include stained glass windows, lamps, vases, pottery, and jewelry. You will discover that there are simply thousands of his glassware pieces in the world today. This is amazing when you consider that glass is breakable. Tiffany designs will boggle your mind when you see the intricate and painstaking craftsmanship that was lavished on each creation.

Louis Tiffany not only worked with glass, but he was a fine artist as well. He lived from the late eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century, but is mostly known for his wonderful stained glass designs. His father, Charles Lewis Tiffany, who was a great artist in his own right, influenced his son by creating his own jewelry company. He began his career in the arts working in New York.

Once a painter who studied in Paris, he later became consumed by glass making. He is famous the world over for his nouveau art style, and in the late 1900's he formed the famous Tiffany Studios. This wonderful artist, wanted to work with glass, however he wanted to work with glass that retained impurities. He decided that the only way to get the type of glass he wanted for his designs was to develop it himself.

Tiffany was so talented that he also created his own type of iridescent glass called Tiffany Favrile. This was very innovative because the colors used were not applied on the top of the glass but were applied to the inside. This method became one of the main components in his famous stained glass windows. He was truly a skillful artisan that influenced decorative artists well into the twentieth century.

Some of Tiffany's most famous stained glass windows are now displayed at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. This exhibition displays some of his rarest stained glass windows that are based on religious themes, flowers, and nature. Featured will be a gorgeous stained glass window that Louis Comfort Tiffany made for himself. You will also be able to find one of his biggest stained glass windows at Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church, which is located in Baltimore, Maryland.

In addition to this work, Brown Memorial houses eleven other colorful stained glass windows that were created by Tiffany Studios of New York. Harvard and Yale Universities also house beautiful Tiffany stained glass windows. The effect that this man had on the art world was enormous because he paved the way for other artists who are interested in creating unique and inspiring glass work. His decorative art will be remembered for many, many years to come.
