Many of us take office water delivery for granted these days, but have we ever stopped to think about the water we drink? People are likely much more busy chatting about the previous night's television programming or trading workplace gossip, and it's a testament to modern office water delivery efforts that we can afford to forget about the water itself. But take a moment to consider your water, and you will be more appreciative of it, and happier for it (for being thankful engenders positive feelings within). Next time you think of office water delivery, think of the fact that much of our universe's water is a byproduct of star formation. Yes, that's right! As stars are born, a strong cosmic wind of gas and dust is sent out, which through various natural processes become compressed (and thus heated) into water. Those beautiful pictures of outer space you see, with luminous interstellar gas clouds? There's water in them clouds! Such clouds are also known as star nurseries because they eventually condense into solar nebulae and then whole solar systems - just like the one we happen to live in! And, speaking of our star system, water vapor has been detected in the atmospheres of other planets and their moons, including the very unlikely candidates of Mercury and Venus, where surface temperatures can be well over eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit! Present in minute amounts only, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn and some of their moons bear various degrees of the vapor, while strong evidence suggests that liquid water may be found under others. Solid water, or ice, is present on Pluto and its moon Charon, as well as our own moon and those of Saturn. Saturn's rings are also home to massive amounts of ice. It is suspected that water comprises much of the internal structure of Uranus and Neptune. For all this water, both at home on earth and abroad on other planets, dire forecasts predict that by 2025 more than half of the world's population will be facing a water shortage. In fact, a recent report released late last year estimates that by 2030 certain developing countries will find that their demand is exceeded by half! So give a thought to water and do not take it for granted. Enjoy every refreshing sip or gulp, and be thankful that there is even such a thing as clean water conveniently delivered to your workplace!
