Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness which is named after a town called Lyme, Connecticut where the disease was first diagnosed. Infected ticks can be found on animals as small as mice, a fact that many people find surprising. Lyme disease bacteria is transmitted by ticks who first bite an infected animal and then bite a person, which passes the bacteria to an unsuspecting individual. Once a person is infected, they may see some minor skin inflammation which, if left untreated, spreads to the nervous system and causes heart complication like meningitis, inflammation of the joints (arthritis) and sensory nerve damage. Although not all joints may be affected with these disease, it can strain some nerves within its surrounding and cause some serious, debilitating complications. Manifestations of Lyme disease Tick bites usually reflect a circular, reddish rash on the affected area of the skin. This superficial rash may become bluish later on, showing a clear manifestation that Lyme disease is present. It is very important that if you see something like that, you see help immediately. Headache, muscle spasm, fatigue and sometimes lymph node complications are observed in affected patients. Lyme symptoms are very much prominent during the incubation period of such bacteria causing the disease. The sooner you can get treatment for Lyme disease, the easier and more likely you are to have a full, speedy recovery. Proper management and treatment of Lyme disease It is very important that you are aware of the symptoms of Lyme disease so you can quickly seek treatment and take care of your health. If you discover and feel any sign and symptom, immediately consult your doctor. You do not need to experience every symptom to suffer from the disease. But, you absolutely must get treatment as soon as possible to avoid more sever manifestations of the disease. You will begin to feel better when you get advise and the right prescriptions from your doctor. How to avoid getting Lyme disease Prevention is definitely better than the cure for Lyme disease. Since there is no exact way to prevent getting Lyme disease, always be careful with the cleanliness of your surroundings and make sure that your area is not tick-infested. More ways to prevent having Lyme disease include: * Maintaining your lawn and garden areas
*Keep wooden areas and materials near your clean and keep them dry, as some ticks thrive on woods.
* Check and bathe your pets from time to time to assure that your pets don't have ticks. Keep pets clean and away from garbage and other unsanitary areas.
* Bathe and wash clothes regularly can help too. Clean clothes and well organized closets can prevent them from being infested with bugs and other insects.
