Most dog owners who have older canines understand the issues associated with canine joint arthritis pain. It's almost a given that as your pet ages he or she will develop osteoarthritis to some degree or level in their later years. Larger sized dogs and those carrying added weight are the most likely to suffer pain from osteoarthritis. The dogs joints that must carry more weight such as with large dogs and overweight dogs suffer more stress in the effects of arthritis are accentuated by this extra mass.

Besides using natural supplementation products and possibly even prescription drugs, there are a number of things I canine owner can do to alleviate their dog's joint pain. First and foremost, it's important that your dog, regardless of the size of his breed, maintains an ideal weight.

In fact, dogs who are are a little bit on the skinnier side are healthier for many reasons besides the fact that it can also decrease the amount of joint pain they suffer if they are having problems with arthritis. Therefore, it's important for dog owners to always maintain proper weights for their dogs. OsteoArthritis can never be cured but its painful effects can be reduced to some extent.

Also, one saying that must be remembered is that when a canines ages often times their mind still believes they are young dogs at heart. It is extremely easy for an older dog to get too excited during playtime and end up straining were hurting their joints because they are afflicted with arthritis. If your dog is suffering from the effects of arthritis always be sure to remember it is your duty to watch out for them and they do not end up spraining one of their joints due to the disease.

For example, if your pet has shown signs of dog joint pain and may have been used to jumping up and down off of your bed their whole lives it may be time to make or purchase a ramp or steps for them to use. Jumping off of a tall bed is not something you want to see your canine friend doing who is suffering from this joint disease.

Just like in people, old canines enjoy a more comfortable and warm bed to sleep. Hard floors, such as concrete and a cold room are no place for a dog suffering from arthritis should be forced to sleep.

If dog joint pain is a problem, your canine meets all the comfort and help it can get to enjoy a good night sleep. Enough rest rest may not get rid of the arthritis pain but it does make a significant difference in your pet's life. There are many beds which can be purchased which are made especially for canines in order to give them a better night's rest.

Many dog owners also supply their canine friends with a natural supplementation product such as 100% safe glucosamine. Actually, almost all of our older canines begin getting this natural supplement on a very regular basis once they become middle aged.

We of course are not able to actually verify that it does decrease dog joint pain that we have witnessed first hand the benefits enjoyed by an older canine who began taking glucosamine after he or she had been suffering from joint pain caused by arthritis. The effects were not immediate but they could be observed in a few weeks.
