Up-and-coming artist Sarah Graham is enjoying the sweet taste of success as her career goes from strength to strength.

The Hitchin-based painter started her working life on the Woolworth's pick'n'mix counter and is now selling originals and prints depicting Black Jacks and Fruit Salads for thousands of pounds.

Ms Graham graduated from Leicester's De Montfort University in 2000 with a BA in Fine Art and has since wowed critics and art lovers with her larger than life paintings of childhood items such as sweets and toys.

She told the Metro: "Toys and sweets have been my main subject matter for the last seven years or so. I like my work to have colour and a sense of humour."

The artist's paintings also include bright and striking images of camper vans, minis, dolls, rubber ducks and more recently London landscapes such as Blackfriars Bridge.

Sarah Graham prints are so realistic that many people have confused them with actual photos, which the artist takes as a compliment.

Washington Green Fine Art Publishing was quick to sign the Midlands artist to their books after the surge in popularity of Sarah Graham prints.

Samantha Jackson, marketing director at the firm, told the Metro that Sarah Graham prints are likely to adorn the homes of art lovers who are looking for fresh and exciting work.

She said: "We expect Sarah's work to connect with a whole new generation of people looking for a highly original style of art to decorate their walls."

Ms Graham has been painting from an early age and fell in love with the craft when her father bought her first set of oil paints when she was aged eight years-old.

The 32-year-old has used different media to create art but states that she prefers to operate with oil because of the consistency and buttery feel of the paint.

Andy Warhol's pop art paintings of the 1960s and 1970s has also had a large influence on Sarah Graham prints, according to the artist.

Sarah Graham has experienced a busy year in 2010 as she has exhibited her work in galleries across the United Kingdom as part of a national tour during March, April and June.

Ms Graham is not just making an impact on the art world but is also becoming actively involved in fashion as she joined forces with handbag brand Helen Rochfort to create a range of cute and kitsch handbags.

Glamour magazine reported that the Sarah Graham handbags were in the top 15 fashion collaborations of the year along with Kate Moss and Topshop.
