Having sufficient work and storage space can often become a problem for businesses that have expanded or just have too little floor area available. To solve this problem many are looking at a mezzanine floor which is a raised floor system. This is an inexpensive and quick way to meet this particular need where re-locating or additional construction is not an option. This type of raised floor systems can be used for numerous purposes. A growing office, for example, may find that desks and other office equipment are becoming crowded making a difficult work area. Needing more space for storage is another problem that often occurs with business expansion. Adding this type of flooring can take care of both of these problems, expanding the work or storage area and leaving it clear and uncluttered. Another advantage is that a mezzanine can easily and quickly be constructed. This can be done in a matter of a few days, which is not only less expensive, but faster than having the heavy construction done that often occurs when trying to find additional space. This proves to be a cost effective solution to the problem. In addition, it is possible to double or triple the available space. Components, such as security cages, handrails, gates, vertical lifts or other safety items needed are included. This makes sure that there are no safety concerns involved. With their many different sizes, types of construction and flooring, it is possible to find the unit that specifically fits any situation. There are a number of different construction materials used for this kind of raised flooring. The majority support systems are made of aluminum, steel or fiberglass. Each has their own specific features and is semi-permanent. Rolled or stainless steel is used in manufacturing the steel mezzanine support system. The food-processing industry uses the stainless steel units which are approved by the FDA. Although hot or cold rolled steel is lighter, this type of support system is very strong and does not require as many supporting columns as other materials used. For any area that is subject to water or condensation, aluminum is a popular choice. Although not as strong as steel, it is lighter and does not rust. The third choice is fiberglass. While this is lightweight and can be the same color as the surrounding area, it is not as strong as steel or aluminum. In addition, it has a tendency to sway and is more expensive than steel. Mezzanine flooring design involves a platform supported by columns. The surface of the structure is long wearing and may be plywood, steel or high-density particleboard which is easy to walk on. The styles available include freestanding, inverted (placed around the building's edge) or actually connected to the wall of the building. These units provide for the needs of retail, manufacturing, office and other enterprises that need more space. It is an excellent way to provide for area expansion with the added bonus that they can be manufactured to fit any situation.
