Things have finally come together - and you are moving! You know you are headed for a few months filled with a whirlwind of activities. As you lie in bed at night, your mind reels with the many things that must be done in a relatively short period of time. Here are some tips to help keep you on track and give you some direction as you begin this exciting adventure. 1) Make a list. Of course, your situation will be unique. You need one place to keep everything, so find a folder and notebook in which to keep all important papers along with the names and phone numbers of contact people. This notebook and folder that is filled with contracts, receipts and other papers will help you stay organized as you begin this exciting journey. 2) Start clearing things out. No matter where you are moving, you know that you have a lot of junk. It's time to start getting rid of things in your home. You can separate your items into three main categories. One group is of items that you throw away. This should include anything that is broken or unable to be used any longer. The next group of items you can sell. Through a yard sale or on the internet, you can often time sell items to make some extra money to help with moving expenses. The last group is of items that you want to give away. This could be to friends, family or a charity. As you sort through things, it's also a good idea to start packing up items that you know you want to take, but you won't need anytime soon. 3) If you rent, you need to let your landlord know that you are moving. If you paid a down payment on your home when you moved in, you should get it back. If you own your home, you must contact a real estate agent to get your house on the market. You may need to contact banks for appraisals and loan information as well. This step is very important as your home likely involves a great deal of money that you will need as you move. 4) Visit your health professionals for complete physicals, as well as dental and eye exams. This is particularly true if you are moving overseas. You don't want to move somewhere and need health care right away. So, take care of these things before you move. 5) Contact a moving company. One of the most important things about moving is your moving company. Moving can be expensive, so you need to get some recommendations for moving companies. You need to call them and get an estimate. This can be done by them coming to your home to see what needs moved or by you giving them a good idea of how much you have. By comparing two or three estimates, you can get a good idea of how much you should pay for moving your belongings. Also, remember that customer service is an important aspect when you have to deal with the moving company Moving can be stressful, but it's also the way to a new life. Rather you are changing jobs, moving to be near family or retiring, relocating is the key to the new changes that are before you. Plan to move with a good attitude, knowing that you will soon be settled in your new home.
