One of the main complications of having a gastric bypass surgery done is the body's calorie and nutrient ingestion is far lower. When someone has the gastric bypass surgery, they get their digestive system re-configured to a much smaller stomach, and intestine section.

The small intestine is where most of the calories and nutrients get absorbed, so when the food bypass's the stomach and parts of the small intestine people can develop nutrition deficiencies. Women run a higher risk for developing other serious diseases like anemia, and osteoporosis.

When nutrient deficiencies occur the person has to take extra nutritional supplements for the rest of their life. The larger the operation has to be, makes the risk greater for complications and nutrient problems.

The most common side effects can be a vitamin B12 and iron deficiency, this is one of the most common side effects, and half of the people that get a deficiency developed anemia as well.

A lot of people also vomit or get nausea after they eat, and that can cause ulcers to start developing. People can get hernias, or have their staples pull lose form over eating.

Most people develop gallstones right after the surgery. Bad gas odors also is a serious side affect form the surgery, it is not really mentioned to often when the surgery is in put in the public eye.

When the surgery is done it cause the food and nutrients to bypass a lot of your stomach and small intestine, so when the undigested food gets down to the colon, the enzymes and bacteria have a harder time digesting the food, and that causes a lot of gas, with a very terrible odor.

A lot of post surgery patients try to use over- the -counter medications to help get rid of the gas problem, but over the counter medicines do not help. There are also a lot of other options to try to get rid of the gas, but it the gas might be a problem not matter what is tried.

A small percentage of the people that do choose have the surgery, end up having to have follow-up operations to correct complications like developing hernias, and more than one third of the people that develop gallstones from the weight loss that is happening to rapidly.

The risk of getting gallstones comes from taking required supplemental bile salts for a short time after surgery.

This is clearly a difficult decision, and one that should only be made after looking over all the available information about gastric bypass surgery. There are many resources available online about the gastric bypass surgery.

Also if you go online and find a doctor in your town that does Gastric bypass surgeries, go see them can and an exam and go over what your risk factors are, then discuss if the surgery is best for you.
