These days, marketing has changed. With the internet, traditional ways of advertising are not as powerful by themselves; they should be supplemented with newer methods. Let's start by looking at the ways that advertising has been done for years. 1. Billboards and Posters: Or even on a smaller scale, flyers and handbills. These methods are great for widespread distribution, and can be used to spread your presence. Getting the word out in the physical world, by whatever means you can afford or prefer, is a great way to reach a wider audience. 2. Print: Buying space in a magazine or newspaper is a good way to reach a specific audience. 3. Creative space: Urinal pucks, pizza boxes, dry cleaning hangers – pretty much anywhere you can imagine is available for advertising. 4. Plastic bags: If you sell a product, there's no better way to promote your items than by having custom made poly bags. Die cut handle bags or staple packs that feature the logo of your company will reinforce to the buyer that he is getting a product of quality. He will feel good about carrying the bag if it is attractive, which will also make him feel better about the product inside the bag. 5. Websites: An online presence is the best way to solidify an audience for your product. It will allow you to be reached at any time, and will provide information for potential customers who are curious about your business. In general, there is no bad way to market online, but there are ways to promote your company even more. Having a blog, a facebook, a twitter and other social media networking accounts are good for spreading the word. 6. The Business Card: Remember that scene in American Psycho when they're looking at each other's card? That's pretty much what everyone does whenever they get a business card – judge it against every other card they've ever received and determine whether or not they're going to keep it in their wallet or rolodex, or throw it away the first chance they get. Make you card special by paying close attention to the color, font, style, and paper. 7. The Logo: Artistry is important. You want to catch people's eyes from afar and make them remember you. This logo will become how people recognize your brand, it will be wherever the name of your company is, so don't hesitate to invest in it, or make it really different and creative. When promoting your business it is most important to be patient. Word spreads through people taking notice, and talking about your company to their friends. The better an experience they have, the more they will talk. Now I'm sure you have the ability to give them a great experience, but in order to get them to take notice, to want to see and believe, they have to hear about you. If you spread yourself around, people will take note more quickly. So hang in there, and keep slogging away.
