Transitioning from college to corporate America can be stressful for new graduates, but landing that first job is an exciting and memorable experience. It can be difficult trying to decide on the perfect gift to help celebrate the occasion. You could just give the new employee in your life a card to say congratulations, or you could take them out for dinner or drinks to celebrate. However, if you want to do something extra special, consider giving them a gift to help them in their new occupation.

There are so many things you can gift - from a beaded lanyard to an emergency stash of treats, consider the following ideas:

- Gift baskets are a great idea. Stock them with chocolates, wine, cookies, and other treats. You could also include convenience items like a bottle of pain reliever, nail clippers, buttons, safety pins, and stationery and stamps.

- Find out what restaurants and coffee shops are close to work, and pick up a gift card or to for lunch hour and break time.

- A leather portfolio and notepad for use at meetings will help them stay organized.

- New employees will need someplace to keep those business cards. You might want to purchase a wallet style organizer for the cards the new employee gets from colleagues and a decorative holder for placing cards on his desk.

- Make the office feel a little more relaxing and decorative by gifting a plant or a unique vase.

- Send handmade cards with inspirational quotes that can be displayed in the office or pulled out for a little perspective when the work day gets overwhelming.

- Desk clocks, calendars, and stress relievers make excellent gifts too.

- A brief case, purse, or calendar organizer can help keep the new employee organized.

- If you have a little extra money to spend, consider an electronic diary, PDA, or a fancy ink pen with engraving.

- Books on organizational, management, and business topics make great gifts too.

- If the new employee likes to read a lot, you could consider purchasing a subscription for a business or trade magazine in his or her field.

- A lanyard is also a great gift idea. Many employers require workers to display their ID badges at all times. With a stylish cord or ribbon, they can add a little personality and flair.

- Photo frames can help cheer up any office setting. If you can find some favorite pictures to put in the frames, even better!

- New employees need to look their best. Consider purchasing a gift card to a favorite clothing shop or buying cufflinks or a necklace. Watches, wallets, and purses are also great ideas.

So whether you opt for something practical and budget-friendly like a designer beaded lanyard, or you create a care kit with your favorite items from the above list, your loved one is sure to feel special. Honor her during this important milestone in her life out there in the real world.
