You might be wondering what the point is of even learning martial arts self defense if you don’t lead a violent lifestyle. You may live in an affluent part of town and don’t see violence every single day. But whether you see it or not, it is out there, every minute of every day. And it is up to you to learn how to properly defend yourself and your loved ones. After all, the gift of life is the most precious gift of all, so we all need to defend it with every ounce of strength we have.

You can learn the basics of self defence training without even having to lift a finger. The reason for that is that the best self defence is awareness. That means being aware of the people around you, being aware of the neighbourhood you are in and being aware of any possible dangerous situations that could arise. Criminals often rely on the element of surprise in order to win a fight. So they look for targets who are obviously distracted and whom they will be able to sneak up on easily. So if you always appear to be on guard and ready for anything, then they will likely pass you by and move on to the next victim. Being aware also includes limiting your distractions when you are out in public. That means limit your texting and phone calls to the bare minimum when you are out in public. There is no conversation that is worth losing your life or your health over and any text can wait until you are back home or safe inside.

Martial arts self defense of course isn’t only about being aware. There are a great deal of wonderful techniques that you can use that will make your attacker wish they never messed with you to begin with. You will learn how to take down someone who is twice your size in two seconds flat. You will have them on the ground, begging for mercy and contemplating why they chose a life of crime. And when the police show up to take them away, they will always remember that time that they got beat by an average person on the street. Hopefully, that will be enough to make them want to turn their lives around.

Self defence training also isn’t only about physical. It is about creating a solid state of mind that is able to withstand intense stress. Of course, that isn’t something that comes easy, but it is something that can be learned. You can learn how to make the stress work for you, and how to make fear your friend. When the adrenaline is flowing, you are at your prime fighting position. But only if you know how to properly take advantage of it. By learning martial arts self defense, you will not only be prepared to fight but you will be prepared to win.
