Everyone wants to be a rock star. A guitar playing rock star. The dream of the excitement of playing in front of thousands is a stuff dreams are made of. Even little girls dream of becoming one, thanks to Bratz animations.

During the guitar learning process, the mind is made to think, think, create, analyze, think and think again. So for those who think that a guitar player is some dumbo, think again. The creative lobes of the brain are stimulated and once they get tapped, endless possibilities can happen.

A child who never got to express himself gets to do it, an adult who can't relax because of worries, learns to do so while playing and then end up with a solution that was thought of during the sessions. The guitar learning is not so easy either. It has to take a certain amount of concentration to memorize all the notes, the timing, how to read a guitar tab, how to make the fingers do what the eyes and the brain tell it to do. Quickly, the mind will learn to grasp the whole concept of playing the guitar that the fingers just sort of walk through the whole thing.

Improvisation is another development when learning. The mind can actually dictate a substitute note if one is forgotten and by doing so makes the mind able to do snap decisions in times of crisis. The bad habit of forgetting becomes forgotten as it is not good practice to forget notes and chords while playing.

Then there is the development of self-confidence. The more songs are learned the more the confidence grows in the knowledge that it is possible to make something work. As the confidence in learning increases, the need to express the self surfaces and this can be easily done with singing. Okay, so maybe your voice is no Bocelli, but at least you can sing to your heart's content while accompanying yourself with the guitar.

In the end, guitar learning not only teaches the values of studying, learning, listening, comprehension, improvisation and even regaining self confidence, but there is also the sense of achievement amidst fun guitar learning activities. Now is the chance to soar and prove to others that there is a hidden talent there somewhere waiting just to be tapped.

Music is one of the greatest gifts to have, being able to play the music makes the sense of fulfilment easy to achieve. And even if in the long run you are not going to be a rock star, at least you are one to the one who counts the most, yourself.
