Different operating system has their own sets of advantages and disadvantages, which is why there is no perfect operating system. You need to weigh these advantages and disadvantages because making a wrong decision can cost you money. Both Windows and dedicated Linux hosting are known to be a popular choice for server hosting operating system. Windows is very well known as the operating system of choice for most home computers. Due to its popularity, there are many third party programs that can run in the Windows operating system. There are also some Windows versions that are specially designed to run for dedicated servers. Due to the fact that Windows is owned by Microsoft, one of the biggest corporations in the world, you can be assured of the robust technical support you can get if you use Windows as your dedicated server operating system. These backups may come from different technicians who have advanced knowledge in the Windows operating system or even technical help from Microsoft themselves. Although Windows is backed by Microsoft, it still has some issues on being the best operating system for your dedicated server. One problem is the source code because you will not be able to modify it. Which will mean that you are not allowed to change the structure of Windows to save memory and increase performance. You are stuck with whatever is included in the operating system. This means that your dedicated server will inherit all the know problems that goes with Windows. Your dedicated server may experience some crashes, memory leaks, and other glitches that Windows have. Linux Is another operating system taht is popular for dedicated server use. The increase of the performance and capabilities of Linux has made the operating system more popular over the course of years. Unlike Windows, Linux is free and is open source. You will be able to remove parts of Linux that you do not need. This will free up some memory that will increase your dedicated server's performance. This means that you can cut down on Linux. Unlike Windows, the updates is done by a group of programmers who has designed and created Linux. You can see this by looking for all the available versions of Linux that is currently out. Linux will not cost anything because it is free and you can do anything you want in this operating system. Although, not all is good in using Linux, it has some disadvantages too. Technical help is one example. Since Linux is free, it does not have the extensive support like Microsoft can offer, although there is still help available. The most popular operating system for dedicated servers today is Linux and Windows. You will have to decide which one to use as both has its own share of advantages and disadvantages. Decide what you really need. It will basically be between robust help support and easier application or less cost and more modifiable.
