Many people who needs web based solutions are choosing Apache for web hosting services. Virtual servers are the choice of some business for their web hosting, some businesses hosts their sites on dedicated servers, while many businesses are hosting their sites on shared servers. Virtual servers are a bit different from dedicated servers in that with a virtual server, there are more users having different sites on the server. Conversely, a dedicated server is being used by a single company to host their website. Moreover; there are some common attributes between UK VPS and dedicated servers. Such common features includes the fact that all users on a virtual server are independent of what the others are doing. This is because the virtual server is usually partitioned into different compartments so that the users can function independently. Moreover, it is no longer news that independence is one of the highlights of dedicated servers.

To install Apache on a virtual server you have to know some things from the onset. There are some things that you must also do in other to have a smooth and hitch free installation.

Firstly, you need to know that there are different operating systems which may be on different servers. Linux operating systems, Windows operating system and Macintosh operating system are only but a few of the operating system that could be on different servers. The operating systems that are available that can be on any server are more than one or two. Thus it is important that you know if you have a Linux Windows virtual server host before attempting to install Apache on it. This is due to the fact, that you cannot use the knowledge of installing Apache on Windows to install it on Linux. You also need to put into consideration, the version of Apache that you want to install.

You should have it at the back of your mind that Apache is the most used web server on Linux operating systems. Thus, having your server run on Linux operating system might be a smart move. Another thing that you have to remember is that the Apache web server is made available to the public in three different versions namely: the version 1.3, 2.0, and 2.2. You should also remember that the version 2.0 is recommended over version 1.3 for running on Windows XP. The version 2.2 is not yet supported by some software such as PHP.

After, you made your decision about the version that you need, you can proceed to download the version from, Apache HTTP server download page, and also remember to download the Win 32 binary. After you might have settled all the issues above, it is only a matter of time before you install Apache on your server. In simple terms, all that you really have to do is to follow the installation prompts diligently and it wouldn't be very long before Apache is running on your UK VPS and you can experience improved web hosting technology.
