Now, I know I'm a guy, and would never, ever, ever claim to have a fashion sense, but I've really loved getting into the art deco movement, and have strangely become interested in random art deco bedroom furniture. It's just really cool looking stuff. Now, for those of you who don't exactly know what art deco is as an art style, basically it's been defined as an international art movement which came into fashion in the 1920's and 30's, and had influences not only in artistic circles, but also in architectural circles and other portions of society. It was a style known for its geometric shapes as well as its stylized designs. And though it went out of fashion some years ago, recently it seems to have made something of a comeback.
It's always been a big dream of mine to eventually build my own home someday. I don't know if I'll ever one day get there, but it's really fun surfing around the net looking for cool exterior and interior designs. I've been looking at exterior stone and designs for the outside of the house and only recently have I begun to look at interior designs. When I came across all the different art deco furniture pieces there were to be seen, it really made me want to find out more. It's fun, not only having something functional like a couch or a chair, but having something that's artistically beautiful as well. Most art deco bedroom furniture is still somewhat expensive unfortunately.
Now I'm not one to usually get into furniture or interior design, but there's something really cool about art deco furniture. Art deco furniture tends to be somewhat small and is very much overtly organized in a geometric fashion. Look at the picture to the right.
Because of the resurgence of art deco as an art style, many modern renditions are being made of the traditional style. And though the modern renditions are very provocative and sleek, the antique pieces are still some of the coolest designs. To me, when an art form is able to come back into vogue after a long absence, it means that there's something about the art form that's central to human pleasure. Unlike so many artistic styles that see a quick explosion of interest before fading away, art deco relies on the stable rigidity and beauty of geometric forms and thus is appealing to the human spirit. It's my personal opinion that art deco as a style will never fully disappear, and that's what's so great about many of the antiques in art deco. In any enduring art form, the original will only continue to gain in value. That's the reason why I love the art deco movement. Just ask yourself this question. What could be better than not only getting a great and beautiful set of bedroom furniture, but a set of bedroom furniture that's only going to gain in value. That is the main reason why I love art deco. It's still very reasonably priced and will ultimately be a great investment I think.
