Housewarming Entertainment Ideas

A housewarming party is a must for anyone looking to celebrate the move. The ideal time to throw your party is around 4 weeks after you've moved in, but this is really up to you.

Introducing party games into the mix is an excellent way to break the ice, to get the guests chatting and to have a bit of fun. Here are some tried and tested party games which I am certain you will find useful.

Paint Party

This is one of my personal favourites. Not only do you get to have some fun, but you get a newly painted room/s, in the mix aswell. This type of entertainment is most suited for a smaller guest list. Each party guest will get their own "tools" and paint so that they can go wild. Ideally, for the more adventurous, allow your guests to paint whatever they wish on a specific wall. They can all sign their names on their the walls and you'll have a room that is completely original and memorable.

Treasure Hunt

Hide a variety of small treats or gifts around the house and the garden. Separate your guests into groups of 2 or 4, give them a treasure map and let the fun begin. This is a great game where children are present.

Musical Glasses

Give each of your guests a clean glass filled with a different beverage, either alcoholic or non-alcoholic. When everyone is seated with their glasses in front of them, put a song on the radio and begin. Each of the guests need to pass their glass on to the person on their right hand side. As soon as the music pauses, they must drink whatever's in their glasses.

Rockstar

This is another game where almost everyone can participate. Pair the guests into two's, preferably partnering them with someone whom they do not know. Toss a bunch of song titles into a hat and let each pair draw a name. Leave it up to them to decide if they are to be a duet or a sing/dance combo. Bring out the karaoke or singstar and get ready to witness a side to your guests that they didn't know existed. To make it even more fun, get some old costumes together and give your guests to the freedom to dress the part. Example; Cher, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, etc

Drinking Games

Almost everyone loves a good drinking game and in my experience, you cannot go far wrong. Depending on the age of the group, games such as coinage (attempting to flick a coin into a glass) and find'the-jelly-tot (sweets such as jelly tots are put inside a bottle of shooters and each guest has to drink out the bottle until a sweet has been removed) will bring a smile to everyone's face and before you know it, your party will be one for the books.
