Grubs may be harmless to humans, but they can be destructive to your lawns. No need to worry though because there are visible signs that will warn you when grubs start to populate your beautiful garden. Do not be scared of grubs because they can easily be sloughed off. The most important thing for you to do is to monitor your lawn for unusual scenarios so that you will know exactly when to get rid of your uninvited guests. So where do grubs come from anyway? It is beneficial for you to learn the life cycle of these insects so you can better determine the season of the year in which grubs breed or reproduce in great numbers and stop them dead in their tracks. Grubs are whitish in color, with dark, yellowish-brown heads and have three pairs of legs. They usually grow from 1 centimeter to 3 centimeters long and they are the larval stage of various insects such as Japanese Beetles, European Chafers or June Bugs. White grubs are labeled as June Bugs because they surface from the pupal stage or from their cocoons in the soil in the latter part of the month of June. As adult bugs, they feast on caducous plants and lay their eggs in the soil until they cease living in about the middle of the August. The eggs of the adult beetles then hatch into small grubs near the end of July until the beginning part of September. At their beginning stages, grubs feed on the roots of grass and other plants and during the fall season, they increasingly grow larger in size. That is when grubs become destructive to your lawn and if not controlled or eliminated, they will become an infestation in your garden. You will not easily spot them at first because they hide about 12 inches beneath the soil surface to protect themselves from the snowy winter. What is the most obvious sign for you to watch out for to determine if your garden is ravaged by terrible grubs? When you see skunks sauntering through your yard, then you definitely have grubs underneath your garden. Raccoons may also show up in your lawn to hunt for grubs so keep an eye out for them. As soon as you see these creatures loitering around your garden, then make the necessary call to your pest control experts. Get their advice and educate yourself of their lawn treatment programs such as chemical, biological and organic lawn maintenance programs. If you cannot control the spread of grubs in your garden, contact your local pest control agency expeditiously to assist you in getting rid of your grub problems. Always be on the lookout for critters in your lawn so that you can make a determination whether or not your garden is in danger from grubs attack. Be persistent in controlling these bugs so your garden will remain radiant throughout the efflorescence season.
