Furniture designers are really pushing the boundaries of what is possible in their work as they use things such as fabric canopies and indoor statues to make a room really stand out from the rest of the house.

Here are a few of the most famous and successful current designers.

Lago

An Italian designer who is most famous for his challenging shapes and his love of geometric designs, Lago is perhaps best loved for some of his creative bookshelves. Lago's transparent designs are also one of the more iconic features of his work, which has seen him create a bed that appears to be floating due to its glass legs. The mattress even has a bookshelf in one corner that also seems to be floating. However, this floating motif isn't just used in the bedroom, as Lago has created floating kitchens and countertops in the past.

Another feature of his work is his use of colour, which, combined with the shapes he creates almost forms a Lego impression in the mind anyone who sees them. One of his most innovative pieces is his Lastika Armchair, which is formed of rubber bands that mean that when nobody is sitting on the chair it just looks like a table, with a flat top. However, once one sits on it the stretch in the elastic bands mean that one can relax into its new shape.

Herman Miller

Famed for his very comfortable chairs, Herman Miller is another leading light of current furniture architects. Leading Swiss Luxury brand Bally, recently asked him to design a group of limited edition Eames shell chairs for their one hundred and sixtieth anniversary. The chairs included the logo of the company on the back and incorporated the banding of the company, with their red stripes on a white background.

Margus Triibman

Triibman uses industrial materials to make furniture that has a recycled appearance to it, a fine example of which is his "Throat Lighting". In "Throat Lighting" has small bulbs placed on the end of longer pipes that can be twisted around as they come down from the ceiling or jut out of the wall. This almost gives the impression to someone who sees them that they are alive.

As there are plenty of other designers out there who create outstanding work, there are many of these great minds coming up with furniture that challenges the accepted norms of what a seat or a table could look like.
