Gas ranges in general are hard to clean. But add in stainless steel and you have a whole different dimension of difficulty to deal with. A rule of thumb with stainless steel is to wipe in the direction of the grain.

Burner Rings: To clean burner rings you should use soap and water. This mild cleansing agent is ideal because anything more abrasive may cause paint to come off. After washing, you should towel dry them and blow out the holes.

Griddle Surfaces: While the surface is warm, pour water on the surface so it bubbles. Use a spatula to them scrape off the burnt-on remnants of food that bubbles up. For stubborn stains use a green Scotchbright pad with a cleanser like Barkeeper’s Friend. Be sure to avoid products with bleach. Once the griddle is clean you should spray or wipe on oil to protect the surface from oxidation.

Cast Iron Grates: Many people have said that the grates are safe to use in the dishwasher, but if you’d like to clean them by hand, soap and water is your best bet. But even the tried and true soap and water method is no match for caked-on food and grease. For those problems, fume-free Easy Off can double as an oven cleaner and grate cleaner.

Viking and Wolf Ovens

Oven door: The oven door is removable for easier cleaning, but if you don’t want to get that technical you can always opt for soap and water. If you choose to use glass cleaner for the window, you should spray the cleaner on a cloth first. Also don’t use abrasive pads and sponges on the glass and enamel or the surfaces will be scratched.

Oven interior: Acidic spills that are tomato or milk based should be wiped up as soon as possible to keep the porcelain from getting discolored. To absorb a spill while it’s still hot you can pour salt on it and wipe it up when the oven is clean. You should also remove oven racks and clean them in warm soapy water. Stuck on food and grease can be cleaned by using mild abrasive cleaners. Rinse and dry the racks before returning them to the oven’s interior.

All in all, your Viking and Wolf gas ranges and ovens were an investment and you should do all you can to protect those investments. The key to cleaning these appliances is to use mild soaps and soft sponges and then take it from there if. Best of luck with your new appliances!
