Solar Heating for Your Pool

Maintaining a comfortable water temperature is key to getting the most pleasure and enjoyment from one's pool. For this reason it is important for pool owners to find a way to efficiently and consistently supply their pool with warm water. While electric and gas heating systems can be used effectively to heat the water in a pool, the cost to operate heating systems such as these can be quite expensive. Because of the potential expenses associated with these systems, they may not be ideal. Another option pool owners have is solar energy. Using the sun's radiant energy to heat the water in a swimming pool is not only budget friendly, but it is environmentally friendly as well.

How It Works -

Pool solar heating systems are quite simple yet they have very impressive heating capabilities. With solar heating pool owners set the heating system to correspond with the water temperature they desire. The heating system's sensors will determine the most efficient operating times and run at these times. Using the pool's existing water pump, cold water from the pool will be pulled through solar collectors. These solar collectors are generally hollow panels designed to retain our sun's heat. They should be strategically placed in areas which receive maximum exposure to sunlight. As the water from the pool moves through these solar collectors, heat from the collectors will be transferred to the water. The warmed water will then be pumped back into the pool using the pool's water pump.

A solar heating system has the ability to heat the water in a pool by a few degrees each time the system runs. When there are several days of favourable weather conditions, the overall temperature of the pool could increase significantly. How effectively solar heating systems warm swimming pools will be completely dependent on the weather conditions. To make the most of one's solar heating system, solar pool covers are recommended.

Other Solar Heating System Uses -

During the hottest summer months in Australia, a pool's water temperature may become too warm. When pools need to be cooled, a solar heating system can help. By allowing the heating system to run at night the pool's water temperature can be decreased by a few degrees. This is accomplished by pumping warmer water out of the pool and allowing this water to flow through the cooled solar collectors. The cooled water will then be pumped back into the pool making the pool's water temperature more invigorating and refreshing.
