The Boy With A Photograhic Essay

Learning to hold a camera comfortably and effectively not only makes taking photographs a smoother and more convenient operation, bit also greatly improves the results. An awkward held camera can produce blurred photos through camera shake or badly framed shots because it is not held steadily.

Incorrect focus can produce an image in which a large area of the picture is unsharp itself. Sort of like looking through "Coke bottle" glasses. Accurate focusing is vital particularly at close distances and when using a wide aperture or a long focus lens - never mind in our millennium, digital prints online and Blogging.

I once heard a photographer say that for him or her the best shots are those that flash by past his train window - too late. Photos and photo images in our life have become everyday and accepted whether on TV, in newspapers , film and magazines or online on websites. "A photograph" remarked the American photographer Garry Winogrand , slightly tongue in cheek " to find out what something will look like photographed " or in 2010 stored in a digital file format.

Good photographs capture the essence of a moment in time, that "Kodak moment". They exploit the particular appeal of a subject with subtlety or perhaps with humor, or invest a seemingly mundane and easily overlooked object with freshness. The camera that first started the 35 mm trend , the prestigious and expensive "Leica" is traditionally of the range finder type - although there are SLR Leicas where sharp focusing is achieved by superimposing a split "ghost" image. To a great extent the well known Nikon camera is a take off of the initial Leica SLRs - or even the inexperienced one makes potential professional photographers of us all as Wrongway Strokon is fond of pointing out. After all it's not as if every budding photographer has 3 professional Hasselblad cameras stored in their basement.

Subject movement is produced when the subject is moving too fast for the shutter speed. It can be prevented by selecting a faster shutter speed , by a larger f stop or by panning the subject as it moves by. The way that you hold your camera depends on any of a number of factors; the type of camera it is , whether it is a landscape or portrait shoot that is being taken and what accessories and lenses are fitted and being employed.

Compact cameras are pocket sized, easy to handle and operate, and incorporate many advanced technical features every increasingly with each new and more technically advanced model. The effects of light and colour, the balance of shapes, the use of texture and form all play vital and basic roles in the photographic art scenarios.

Such shots may seem wonderfully promising but results promising but results are rarely accurately foreseen - even for professionals there is an element of surprise and even error between observing the scene , taking the photograph and view the final print ,image on lcd screen or photo printed from an inkjet or color laser printer - forever and in the greatest detail. Excessive contrast in the subject or the lighting produces a harsh image with little detail in either shadow or highlight areas. Often the image is fugitive, like the shadow cast by a cloud, the appearance of a rainbow , or simply a figure of set of figures dashing by. time is the third dimension of the photograph. Voila.
