Party Planning 101 - The Entertainment

This article is aimed at both professional and amateur events planners. I am going to try and help you to make the most of your event and assist you in planning the best party that you can. The article, although touching on event planning in general, will focus on entertaining your guests so that they will enjoy and remember your event.

Firstly and most importantly you will need to draw up a list of things to do. In the business world entrepreneurs understand that thorough planning and budgeting can mean the difference between failure and success. Even the best ideas can fail due to unforeseen costs or insufficient planning.

When you plan your event or function it is wise to adopt the same due diligence as a successful business man would with a new venture. Draw up a budget and stick to it. Spend too much on one aspect of the event and you'll be stuck when it comes to the next aspect. This can result in your event failing.

It is also important to give yourself enough time for the organization of the event. If everything is left to the last minute, you run the risk of over paying for services. If you have enough time you can thoroughly research every aspect of your event and ensure that you get the best service for your budget.

When looking at entertainment for your event and applying the above mentioned methods, you should:

Establish what form of entertainment would be suitable for your event. There are many options here. Usually a party or function will make use of music as entertainment. So your options will be

- A band

- A DJ

- A jukebox or even

- A karaoke machine!

Once you have made your decision you need to find a suitable company that can cater to your entertainment needs.

Take your time to asses each company and phone some of their previous clients to find out what service the company will give you. Avoid any entertainment company who cannot provide references or testimonials. These are usually bad news, as kind and pleasant as they may seem over the phone. The entertainment that you supply to your guests will be the deciding factor in whether they stay at your party or "eat and run". Be sure to get the best service before you take the cheapest option, as equipment failure or even failure of the entertainment to turn up will surely spoil you otherwise perfect evening.

In conclusion, you should set up a budget, take your time when sourcing entertainers and lastly double check that the chosen company has a good reputation and a successful track record. With everything in place you should be able to, on the night, enjoy your own party and be the host that everyone adores.
