Nobody likes to wake up in the morning and be faced with a clogged toilet. A clogged toilet can be a nuisance any time of the day. Thankfully, this toilet problem is easily fixable and preventable. In a lot of cases, a plunger will correct the problem immediately, however some cases may require the professional intervention of a plumber. Common sense can prevent a problem or make it less likely to happen. The toilet tank shouldn't have items on it that could fall into the toilet and cause a clog. Children should also be reminded that toys or other items should be kept far away from the toilet bowl. What is the next step when you hear a child yelling for you to come because the toilet is overflowing again? The plunger is the first tool to grab to alleviate the problem. If that doesn't work then the clog may be related to a sewer line clog which would require the assistance of a plumber. A good way to tell if the clog stems from a trap or a sewer line is to run the water in the bathroom sink to see how quickly it drains. If the bathrooms sink drains slowly then most likely it would be a clog in the sewer line itself. A blocked sewer line can be caused by an item getting trapped deeper into the sewer system or even a tree root growing into a pipe under ground. Plumbers have a tool called a snake that can reach deep in the pipes underground to remove the blockage. Sometimes, in a case of a tree root, a section of the pipe may need to be cut out and replaced. When a cracked or faulty toilet results in water on the bathroom floor, a replacement is in order. New toilet models have many features these days that were not available years ago. A low flow toilet can save money for the household budget by using less water per flush. A low flow toilet is also great for the environment in regards to water conservation. As people age their mobility dwindles and getting up from a seated position is not always as easy as it used to be. An elevated toilet for an older person can make getting up off the toilet much easier and safer. The elongated toilet bowls on the market today are designed with comfort in mind. They only take up as much space as a round front toilet bowl. It is helpful to know that there are parts that are in the tank of the toilet that can be easily replaced. The tank lid lifts off and provides access to these parts. A common breakage in the tank area is the linkage that is connected to the flush handle. A trip to the local plumbing store may be all that is required in this case. Check out one of the large home stores, or your local hardware store and take a look at all the parts that they sell for toilet repairs. Some friendly advice from the salesperson and a few helpful tips is frequently all that is needed for a small toilet repair. So if you hear a family member yelling out that familiar refrain make sure the things mentioned in this article are checked first. Then call a plumber if professional expertise is needed.
