If you need to be able to recover data within a short period of time then you should implement an online backup plan. There are a large number of professional backup services companies who can provide offsite backup for both residential and business needs. For a monthly, quarterly or yearly fee you can obtain professional backup with technical support for data such as music, movies, photos and personal documents. An offsite backup company can encrypt data for a business during the secure backup process so that a password is needed to access the data. The data can be accessed at any time from anywhere there is an internet connection as long as you have the password. You can choose a professional backup plan that comes with lots of backup space or a plan that has less backup space. The more space an offsite backup plan is allocated, the more expensive this plan will be. A backup plan has four primary stages. The first is deciding what to back up. You may be inclined to back everything up, but keep in mind that backups that take a long time are inconvenient and it can be costly backing up data that you don't actually need to. Once you've decided what to back up, you then need to select a method of doing so. Besides remote secure backup of data which can be accessed whenever you want via the internet, there are also other means of offsite backup. For instance with disk-to-disk backup the data is copied to a removable or external disk. Other options include disk-to-tape backup and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup. The disks and tapes should be managed and stored offsite to ensure secure backup. The expenses associated with disk-to-tape and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup methods are greater than with remote and disk-to-disk backup because of consumable and tape library management costs. The longer a disk is used for disk-to-disk backup however, the more chance there is that a lot of data will be lost through disaster related to the data centre, such as fire. With remote offsite backup the initial setup may take quite some time and performance will depend on the bandwidth associated with the backup service. The third stage in a backup plan is to schedule and test whether the backing up procedure performs well and then fourthly to schedule and test the plan's recovery procedure. A company who provides professional backup services can implement each stage of your backup plan for you to whatever specification of secure backup you want. Though the thought of implementing an offsite backup plan may sound like a difficult task at first, the methods of setting up a reliable and secure plan are actually straightforward and the plan can be tailored to your specific budget and data backup requirements.
