5 Ways to Find a Good Jewish Wedding Photographer

One of the most important aspects of a kosher wedding is the photography. The photos are what last when the wedding is over. They are how future generations can relive and experience your kosher wedding and if you’re photos were captured by someone who really didn’t know what they were doing, you will be heartbroken. There’s no going back in time and recapturing those perfect shots, so it’s imperative that they are done right the first time. But unfortunately, not every wedding photographer understands the intricacies and rituals that go along with Jewish weddings. Not just during the ceremony, but before and after. They are extremely special and if you hire a wedding photographer who has little experience shooting Jewish weddings, you could be extremely disappointed when your proofs come back. If you’re worried about finding the perfect Jewish wedding photographer, here is a little guide to help ease your nerves.

1) Ask friends, co-workers and neighbors. Word of mouth is a great way to truly get some ideas about who is a good Jewish wedding photographer, and who leaves their customers with less than satisfying results. If your friend, neighbor or co-worker had a good experience, ask to see the work they got done. If it’s something along the lines of what you’re looking for get the contact information and set up a meeting.

2) Use Google. Thanks to the visual aspect of it, the internet has really one-upped the yellow pages as a great way to find resources for Jewish wedding photography. However, just because someone has a really nice looking site, doesn’t mean they’re a great photographer. If they don’t have a portfolio or examples of their work online you should be wary and move on to the next person who does. A really experienced Jewish wedding photographer has an online portfolio that displays their versatility and range. Feedback sites like Yelp! Are great when it comes to finding honest reviews about someone’s services. If you are having any doubts about a photographer, just turn to a feedback site like Yelp! And see what other patrons have had to say.

3) Ask around the synagogue. There are probably 10 Jewish wedding photographers in residence at your synagogue. Finding someone of the faith is extremely important because you know they will capture all of the moments that a photographer who knows nothing about Jewish weddings would miss. If there are none, someone probably knows someone, who knows someone and you will most definitely get good results that way.

4) Use the Yellow Pages. If the thought of browsing the internet makes you head want to explode, you can always turn to the tried and true Yellow Pages. Many of the larger photographers will have ads in the photography section. You can pick a few that sound promising and then set up to meet with them and view samples of their work.

5) Place and Ad. Whether it’s online or in your local college’s newspaper, an Ad seeking a Jewish wedding photographer is a great way to get results back, some of which you wouldn’t be able to find in an independent search.
