Larva rocks have holes provide a large surface area for the bacterium to thrive while the flow of water through the holes favors bacteria growth. A plastic bucket will effectively serve for this purpose. Potting plants will add aesthetic value to the pool making it more attractive. Most aquatic plants do not require soil for growth since they get their nutrients from all parts of their body. It is thus prudent to use coarse stones or gravel to raise the potted plants since soil is easily washed away by rainwater and may poison the fish.
