How Should I Go About Choosing HVAC Products?

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=24
By : Nick Messe

Just about everyone has heard the term HVAC at some point in time, but what does it mean exactly? HVAC is an acronym for Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning. It is an encompassing term regarding all aspects of development, installation, operation, and care of ventilation, heating and cooling systems.

Although it is unclear exactly who coined the term HVAC or when, the concept of it has been around for centuries. Since the beginning of man, the desire to stay cool when it is hot and warm when it is cold has brought forth many an invention. Not until the 1800s did the business of HVAC really begin to take shape with many developments thanks to the industrial revolution and inventors like Dr. John Gorrie, George Westinghouse, and Dr. Willis Carrier. It was during this time that the HVAC industry really began to take shape, eventually becoming the international multi-billion dollar business it is today.

The HVAC industry had a history of self-regulation, setting their own standards and business practices. However, companies such as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) now help the industry develop, set, and maintain the high standards now in place.

So what does all of this mean to the average consumer? The HVAC industry is worldwide and regulations on such a large business help to standardize and mainstream products, services, and business practices, ensuring that you as a customer receive those quality products and services. When it comes time to repair or replace your furnace, air conditioner, or ventilation system, it is the HVAC industry that takes care of that for you.

There are some guidelines to follow when purchasing items such as air conditioners, heating systems and the like. If you are unfamiliar with this type of equipment and services, consult a professional contractor. This small step can end up saving thousands of dollars in the long run. Whether inquiring about which system to purchase or what exactly is needed in the first place, a professional heating and air conditioning contractor can help you decide in a more efficient manner than anyone else.

Deciding on which professional to call can seem like a daunting task. However, do not underestimate the power of word of mouth advertising. Check around with your friends, family, and neighbors. Personal experience can speak volumes when it comes to services and products. Also, choose a licensed business to deal with.

When deciding on exactly what equipment to choose for your particular needs, keep in mind that choosing items with the Energy Star rating leads to more efficient usage. Energy Star is a program from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the U.S. Department of Energy that promotes and identifies energy efficient models of products. The heating or air conditioning contractor you choose should have experience with this program and be able to build a system that is the most efficient and affordable for your particular needs.
