Art lovers may want to own Simon Claridge prints as work by the artist is proving popular with famous faces. Scottish pop legend Rod Stewart was seen buying a print of Blondie singer Deborah Harry from Harrods over the festive period after Simon Claridge prints were exhibited in the store's Christmas window display. The artist told wharf.co.uk that he was happy to learn the news that Rod Stewart was interested in his work as it seemed fitting that the singer was buying a print of a fellow celebrity. He told the website: "I'm really pleased about that. There's something quite appropriate about one 1970s icon buying a picture of another." The painting of Deborah Harry is one of many Simon Claridge prints that depict famous female icons from the worlds of music, acting and fashion. Claridge revealed that he paints prints of females which he admires such as sixties model Twiggy, Hollywood icons Brigitte Bardot and Marilyn Monroe and catwalk queen Kate Moss. He told wharf.co.uk that he was received positive feedback from the famous people he had depicted and hopes to have the opportunity to be able to work with his muses in person. "I'm hopeful of doing some work with Twiggy in the future as I heard she liked the pictures. I've also been told that when Kate Moss saw my picture of her she smiled, which is good enough for me," he told the site. Claridge has recently paid tribute to his hero, pop art impresario, Andy Warhol with paintings of Twiggy and a combination of Marilyn Monroe with the Mona Lisa entitled the 'Monroe Lisa'. He told wharf.co.uk: "I'm pleased with the Monroe Lisa because it blends two of the best known female portraits into one. I was curious about what it would be like and whether it would work, and I think it does. It's almost as if Marilyn is laughing at the in-joke of the piece." Claridge rose to prominence last year after his Diamond Dust Prints collection was exhibited to critical acclaim and his painting of Twiggy was chosen to grace the cover of an edition of the Fine Art Collector. The artist claims he has always been obsessed with the art world and went on to complete a BA in Fine Art from the University of Reading in order to pursue a career in the subject. Simon Claridge prints are currently being exhibited at the Artisan Gallery in North Colonnade, Canary Wharf.
