Most of us know about the importance of things like insulation and siding, but did you know that awnings can help keep your summer electricity bill under control? Along with things like shutters, awnings can block a lot of the direct radiant heat from the sun, preventing it from entering the home through windows. As a result, your air conditioning unit won't have to work as hard - and your electricity bill will be more reasonable. Keep Your Home Cool in the Summer: During the summer, the sun can beat down on a house and dramatically increase its indoor temperature. If you've ever sat by a window on a bright, sunny summer day, then you know how intense the rays of the sun can be. When you think about it, a huge part of the job that an air conditioner has to do is to cool down the air inside your home that got heated up by the sun that streams in through the windows. In other words, if the sun's rays can't get in, a lot of the air in your home would stay reasonably cool. This phenomenon is a huge reason for the increasing popularity of outdoor blinds and other things - and why awnings can be so very helpful. Awnings are a simple way to cut down on your summer electricity usage. Research has found that awnings are able to lower electric bills within an average range of 17% to 24%, the difference depending on environmental factors such as the amount of sun that a place gets. Better still, awnings work the most efficiently during peak energy times - especially when the sun is at its most intense. When you use awnings, your home doesn't need as much electricity to stay cool during those peak hours; as a result, the likelihood of brownouts and other problems in your area is reduced. It's just one small way that awnings can have an impact on an entire area. Awnings: So Many Options: A lot of homeowners are uncertain about considering fitting awnings to their homes because the are cautious about the aesthetic appeal the awnings will have on their homes. Happily, awnings come in many different colours, styles and configurations these days; there is bound to be a design that is perfect for your home. Another common concern is price; many people worry that they can't afford awnings. Luckily, there are awnings available at all price levels, from simple designs to very elaborate ones. If you want to save money on your electricity bill this summer, you should look no further than awnings.
