City Centre Living in Leeds

Leeds is an internationally acclaimed city, which has been transformed from a slump to one of the cleanest of all major English cities. The transformation, which started after World War II, has produced numerous green belts, waterways and walking trials. A city centre living in Leeds is in many ways different from other major UK cities because not only does it provide sense of urban renewal but a lifestyle, dominated by country living.

Shopping Mecca

Unlike other cities, principal retail area of Leeds is located inside downtown. There are more than 1,000 retail outlets in the city centre encompassing nearly 2,264,000 square feet of shopping venue. It seems that everyone in Yorkshire County has visited these sprawling Mega indoor shopping malls including St John's Centre, Headrow Centre, Victoria Quarter, Merrion Centre and Leads Shopping Plaza. Still, only 25% of workers are employed by downtown retailers because majority work in small shopping villages, located throughout suburbs.

Residential District

Nowadays, development of office building has mostly been relocated to South of Aire River. This transfer has aided in the development of numerous residential buildings including areas around the famous Quarry Hill Flats. Also, the tallest building in Leeds city centre contains many residential apartments. Leeds also has distinction of having the tallest student residential building in the World, Sky Plaza.

Attractions

There are many museums, art galleries and other attractions. Perhaps, one of the most loved spots is the famous Leeds Country Way. It is a unique waymarked circular walking trial of approximately 100 miles, which is never 11 km away from city centre at any of its points. This trial connects major outdoor parks and places of public interest including Woodhouse Moore, Golden Ace Park and Windermere. Ramblers Association and YHA offer variety of sociable walks and bicycle tours on these trials.

Visitors are also enthralled by moving picture display at one of the largest Wooden Mills in the World, Armley Mills Industrial Museum. Abbey House Museum is also distinct in its character, offering walk-through presentation on Victorian era streets. For music lovers, City Varieties Music Hall is must-see. It has hosted performance from Charlie Chaplain and Houdini. Besides, Leeds International Film Festival has gained international reputation for one of the most stylish events, outside London and New York. Due to very large portions of student population, the city also has thriving nightlife supported by Super Clubs, restaurants, pubs and discos.
