Going "green" has more advantages than you might initially think. Doing your part to save the environment is probably the best reason to go "green." But it's no longer the only reason. It's also a great way for you to save money, both short-term and long-term. You might be surprised to find out what you can do to preserve the environment and keep your hard earned money where it belongs, in your pocket. Unplugged - Everything that is plugged in, in your home, is using electricity whether it's 'on' at the time or not. By simply unplugging your cell phones, computers, fans, televisions and other appliances that aren't being used, you will be surprised at the savings you'll see on your electric bill. Tankless - On-demand tankless hot water heaters are growing in popularity. The endless supply of hot water is just one reason. An even bigger reason you might not be aware of is that your traditional water heater kicks on and off to keep the hot water ready to use. An on-demand tankless water heater is only consuming energy when you need hot water. This adds up to great savings for you. On The Line - Air drying your clean laundry is a great way to save energy and save money. If you live in an area where the climate isn't favorable in the winter then there are multiple choices available for you to hang them indoors. Efficiency - These days just about any appliance you can purchase is efficiency rated. If you've got an older refrigerator, microwave or window air conditioner, it might be a good idea to invest in a new appliance. Not only are they better for the environment, but they will also save you money on your energy costs. Water - There are many options available to help you save water. You can purchase low flow shower heads to help the members of your household use less water when showering. Building or purchasing a rain barrel to capture rain water is a great way to water your flower or vegetable garden. Solar - Solar panels can be used for anything from creating electricity to heating your water. You can purchase an array of different solar panels that have different uses or you can save even more money and easily build your own solar panels. Wind - Wind farms are being built in areas across the country. These wind turbines are creating energy that is saved and stored and even sold to the electric companies. This is an environmentally friendly way to create energy. You can easily and inexpensively build a wind turbine that will generate energy to run your home. Now that you've learned that going "green" is also a great way to save yourself money, go ahead and get started. You will be amazed at how much money you'll save on your energy costs!
